Intelligent Enterprise 2.0:
Our Future Direction Online

As you may know, Intelligent Enterprise has ceased print publication with the January 2007 issue, but rest assured that the mission lives on and is being reinvigorated here at IntelligentEnterprise.com.

There are several reasons it makes sense for us to focus all our efforts online. First and foremost, most of the markets we cover, including business intelligence, business process management and content management, are headed mainstream. As evidence, Gartner predicts that by 2012, BI will be integral to 85 percent of applications. And in a 2006 Gartner survey, CIOs identified BI as their number-two technology priority, up from number ten in 2004.

Given these trends, formerly niche-oriented topics are now routinely covered by much broader, larger-circulation print publications in the CMP family, including InformationWeek and Network Computing.

Meanwhile, the trusted brand Intelligent Enterprise is still tremendously relevant and valuable to the IT and business professionals who are leading and influencing enterprisewide deployments. By continuing to deliver our best content online, along with exciting new forms of interactive content, we can reach a growing, self-selected audience in a more engaging way.

IntelligentEnterprise.com will undergo significant upgrades in the coming months, with an emphasis on more timely content, and a cleaner, more engaging Web site. The Intelligent Enterprise Weblog will be a cornerstone of the new site, but we'll continue to deliver the content you valued most in the print magazine. Joining us, I'm happy to report, will be many of the experts who helped establish our thought leadership, including Cindi Howson, Ralph Kimball, Margy Ross, Joy Mundy, Warren Thornthwaite, Seth Grimes, Bruce Silver, Mark Smith, Colin Snow, Tony Byrne and Alan Pelz-Sharpe, among others.

Personally, I'm excited about ramping up our coverage of "Enterprise 2.0" topics including services-oriented architecture, composite apps, software as a service and rich internet applications. To that end we're adding new voices to our contributor roster including David Linthicum, an expert on integration as well as SOA, SaaS and Web 2.0.

Please continue to join me, writer/editor Antone Gonsalves and our community of expert contributors for a great content experience here at IntelligentEnterprise.com. Your comments, interesting links and suggestions are welcome.
