Talend Bows Data Quality Product
Talend announced an open source data quality offering today. The company has been moving very quickly to fill out all of the basic components needed for a complete data integration suite. In June the company delivered Talend Open Profiler for data profiling, and the Open Studio ETL tool contains changed data capture (CDC) features. While not a full suite yet, these are a big expansion of functionality in short time. Unfortunately you'll have to wait a few weeks. Data Quality won't be ready for download until September. The data quality product initially focuses on the most common needs. You will be able to do things like de-dupe data, handle common formatting requirements for phone numbers and addresses, and identify and track data issues. Yves de Montcheuil, Talend’s VP of marketing said that they are still working on partnerships to provide transparent integration with external data cleansing products and data providers. Expect these to be announced in the next few months as they work out the details. He also mentioned that this will follow the Open Studio licensing model, with an open edition and a commercial edition. No word yet on what the feature differences are between the two.
