Hits and Misses From Companies to Watch 2001

Accrue Software Inc. — The company had financial problems — it was nearly delisted by Nasdaq — but released a major platform upgrade and scored a big marketing deal with IBM.

Agile Software Inc. — Was targeted by Ariba Inc. for acquisition early in the year, but the merger later fell through. The company released new product chain management products in October.

BEA Systems Inc. — Covered in this year's Dozen.

Commerce One Inc. — SAP increased its ownership stake to 20 percent. A week after announcing a dismal Q3 2001 forecast, Commerce One laid off nearly half its employees.

Informatica Corp. — Covered in this year's Dozen.

Mercury Interactive Corp. — Continued its status as the dominant load-testing software market leader; Fortune ranked the company ninth on its "100 Fastest Growing Companies" list.

MicroStrategy Inc. — Covered in this year's Companies to Watch.

Plumtree Software Inc. — Covered in this year's Companies to Watch.

RSA Security Inc. — RSA was buffeted by the post-boom aftershock last year, but does anyone doubt the importance of security in 2002?

SeeBeyond — Covered in this year's Companies to Watch.

Selectica Inc. — Formed partnerships with Actuate and E.piphany, released version 5 of its ACE e-business suite, and announced that Cisco Systems is migrating its entire product configuration engine to the Selectica platform.

Synchrologic — Obtained a patent for its iMobile Data Synchronization scheme. Casio Inc. named the company a strategic partner for enterprise data management.
